Hague hoilday MCF01_02_0383
THE HAGUE, NETHERLANDS. A large crowd of people outside the Netherlands Bank in Den Haag (The Hague), just 4 days after the start of the First World War.
The photographer was on holiday in Holland at the outbreak of the First World War and this photograph was taken just 4 days later. After the Austro-Hungarian declaration of war against Serbia on 28th July 1914, the Amsterdam stock exchange closed and there was a subsequent run on the banks with people withdrawing their savings
