APSLEY HOUSE, London. General Sir James Shaw Kennedy (1788-1865) sketched by Jan Willem PIENEMAN in 1821 (WM 1540-1948). In 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo, Captain Kennedy served on the staff of Altens 3rd Division, which withstood several French cavalry charges. During the battle he was struck in the side and out of action for a period, one of his horses was killed and another was wounded under him. He was later noted as a historian of the battle
