Blitzcrete DP221404

Wadhurst Park, Wadhurst, Wealden, East Sussex. Detail of blitzcrete render on the exterior of the house. A technique developed by John Outram, Diespeaker and David Knowles in the 1970s.
Blitzcrete is made where fragments of bricks are cast into a cement and sand matrix which itself can also be made any colour. The surface is then ground-back to reveal the bricks. The advantage of brick over stone is that most stone bleaches to grey while brick, being a ceramic, retains its colour

The Strike School, Church Green, Burston, Burston And Shimpling, Norfolk. Detail of stones on the west side of the former school, now a museum, inscribed with the name of subscribers to the building, including Leo Tolstoi'.
