Wyatt - Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany N070450
APSLEY HOUSE, London. " Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany" c.1822 by Henry WYATT (1794-1840). Prince Frederick (1763-1827) was the second son of George III and heir to his elder brother George IV. His military command in an ill-fated campaign in the Netherlands inspired the rhyme " The Grand Old Duke of York". Subsequently, as Commander in Chief of the Army from 1795, he instituted a range of reforms that put the army in good stead for the wars to come, including founding the military college at Sandhurst in 1802.
