Totem Pole BAR03_01_553
Windsor Great Park, Totem Pole, Runnymede, Surrey. A view looking up the Totem Pole in Windsor Great Park. The totem pole in Windsor Great Park was presented to Queen Elizabeth II in June 1958 by Chief Mungo Martin of the Kwakiutl or Kwakwaka wakw or Kwakiutl. The pole is 100 ft high and marks the centenary of British Columbia, which was proclaimed a Crown Colony in 1858 by Queen Victoria. A 600 year old tree was felled in order to create the pole, which was carved by Chief Mungo Martin. A second, identical totem pole was carved and remained in Vancouver, Canada. The totem pole in Windsor Great Park was repainted in 1985 by delegates of the Kwakwaka wakw
