Bridging the Lune JLP01_08_079743
TEBAY, EDEN, CUMBRIA. A view of the construction of the M6 Motorway through the Lune Gorge, showing the building of a bridge across the River Lune, probably the Roger Howe bridge which carries the A685 across the river.
The work on the Lune Gorge section of the M6 Motorway between Killington and Tebay (Junction 37 - Junction 38) was carried out by John Laing Construction Ltd. Work started in October 1967 and the motorway was opened to traffic in October 1970. On this stretch of the M6, 20 bridges and 17 culverts were built across rivers and streams. The Roger Howe bridge is located at the grid reference NY6129602758 and carries the A685 across the River Lune. Continuing along this road is the Lawtland House viaduct which carries the A685 over the M6, see also JLP01/08/079762

SIZEWELL B POWER STATION, LEISTON, SUFFOLK COASTAL. The reactor building under construction at Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station, seen from a tower crane to the north, showing the steel liner of the domed roof.
Sizewell B is one of two nuclear power stations on the Suffolk coast near the village of Sizewell. Sizewell A, its predecessor, is in the process of being decommissioned. Sizewell B is a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR); the first of its kind to be constructed in the UK. John Laing plc were awarded the contract for the main civil engineering work on 19th May 1987. Sizewell B was completed in 1995, after 8 years of construction, and is operated by EDF Energy

M6 Motorway, M6, Stafford, Stafford, Staffordshire. A view of the construction of the Stafford By-pass on the Birmingham to Preston Motorway (M6), looking north across Rising Brook towards the Highfields Farm access bridge and showing Laing excavators and a bulldozer carrying out peat removal.
In the album, the typed caption below the photograph reads Looking north across Rising Brook where large pocket of peat (50,000 cu.yds) is being removed and replaced with clay backfill prior to the motorway embankment being constructed. Background shows Highfields Farm access bridge, which is virtually complete. The work on the Stafford By-pass started in June 1960 and was opened to traffic in August 1962
