FINMERE STATION, Oxfordshire. The Great Central Railway Company built this station on the line from Sheffield through Nottingham and Leicester to London in 1898-9. A new Great Central Railway terminus was built at Marylebone. Behind these porters are posters advertising tickets for trips to London. These journeys would be unthinkable for most people before the coming of the railways. Photographed by Alfred Newton and Son in 1904

WOOTTON BASSETT UNITED DAIRIES, Wiltshire. The Dairy Supply Company opened its factory in 1908 and merged with United Dairies in 1915. The premises finally closed in February 2003 and have since been demolished to make way for housing (Cloatley Crescent, Dior Drive..). Goods Shed, West Lancashire Station, Fishergate Hill, Preston. Two vans parked outside the Cantrell and Cochrane depot. Photographed in 1927 for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. The station was also known as Fishergate Hill Station. With the exception of a few infrequent services, the station was closed to passengers in 1900 but it remained open to goods traffic until 1965. It was later demolished and the site is now Colman Court
