Engraving of French Napoleonic soldiers. An Officer of the Chevaux-legers Lanciers (2nd Regiment of Imperial Guard), with a mounted private in the background. In 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo this unit formed part of General Lefebvre-Desnouettes Guard Light Cavalry Division, which took part in Marshal Ney's massed cavalry attack on the British lines. They had also been engaged at the Battle of Quatre Bras on 16th June as scouts ahead of Marshal Ney's main body

Napoleon and the Imperial Guard J840004
Engraving of French Napoleonic soldiers produced in Berlin. A parade of the French Imperial Guard being reviewed by Emperor Napoleon I. The infantry of the Imperial Guard were veteran troops considered to be the cream of Napoleon's army. Their repulse by the Anglo-Dutch army at the Battle of Waterloo (18th June 1815) was the decisive moment that ended both the battle and ultimately Napoleon's return to power in France

This was a gift to the Duke from the King of Prussia, and here depicts troops commanded by the Duke in France in 1815, in this case British Foot Guards: 2nd (Coldstream) Guards (left) and 1st Grenadier Guards.
