City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester. An aerial view of the City of Manchester Stadium during the early stages of construction. This new 41, 000 capacity athletics stadium was built as part of Manchester's bid to host the 2002 Commonwealth Games before being adapted to become the home of Manchester City Football Club. It cost £90 million to build and was finished in October 2001. Photographed in March 2001
