CRYSTAL PALACE, Sydenham, London. These giant figures depicting the Egyptian pharaoh Rameses II, copied from the temple at Abu Simbel, dominated the Tropical transept at the north end of the Crystal Palace. This view may be by Delamotte who took two earlier series of photographs of the Crystal Palace at Sydenham. It is hand coloured, and reproduces the decorative scheme for the Palace devised by Owen Jones. Probably photographed 1854-66 by Philip Henry Delamotte

APSLEY HOUSE, London. Interior view of the principal staircase with the statue of Napoleon holding a figure of Victory by Antonio CANOVA (1757-1822). Napoleon as Mars the Peacemaker'. The statue was originally commissioned from the celebrated Italian sculptor by Napoleon himself. In 1816, after Napoleon's downfall, it was presented to the 1st Duke of Wellington by the Prince Regent (later George IV)

Wellington Arch with Duke of Wellington statue DD97_00320
DUKE OF WELLINGTON STATUE, Wellington Arch, Hyde Park Corner, London. A view of the Wellington Arch on Hyde Park Corner, built by Decimus Burton in 1828. The statue was built by Matthew Cotes Wyatt between 1840 and 1843 and weighed 40 tons. The statue was moved to Aldershot when the Arch was moved to Constitution Hill in 1882 (and renamed Constitution Arch). Photographed by York and Son. Date range: 1870-1882
