Soldiers from the Dutch army mobilising near The Vyver in The Hague (Den Haag), just 4 days after the start of the First World War, with two boys in the foreground watching soldiers marching by. Photographed by Katherine J. Macfee, 1st August 1914. The photographer was on holiday in Holland at the outbreak of the First World War. The Netherlands remained neutral, but in order to prevent invasion they mobilised their army, transporting soldiers to the borders of the country
