Whitehall MCF01_02_0219
WHITEHALL, CITY OF WESTMINSTER, GREATER LONDON. A view of a pair of columns surmounted by statues outside the Cabinet Office and Treasury on Whitehall, with traffic and pedestrians in the road.
The photograph is one of a batch taken by the photographer to show coronation decorations in London. In the negative index, the photographer refers to the columns as Ontario Pillars probably due to Ontario appearing at the the top of the columns, but postcards of the time refer to them as Canadian Column. The columns were erected to celebrate the coronation of King George V and Queen Mary on 22nd June 1911
