Staircase at Land'€™s End House, Beggars Hill Road, Charvil, Berkshire, 5 March 1935. Millar & Harris cellulose nitrate negative. The photographers make superlative use of light and shade to create an expressionistic view of the staircase at Land'€™s End House. The house was built in 1935 and designed by architect Guy Morgan for the aircraft manufacturer Frederick George Miles. A full-height window at the front of the house lit this curved rubber-clad staircase. Millar & Harris had been established in 1912 as Millar & Stone, and became Millar & Harris in 1924. The firm'€™s extensive client base included architects such as Guy Morgan, estate agents Knight Frank & Rutley, and the construction company Mowlem
