Beekeeping, 1908 BB98_06002

BEEKEEPER AT STOW LODGE, Wyck Hill, Wick Rissington, Gloucestershire. People have kept - or at least exploited - bees for centuries, possibly since the first century BC. In the 18th and 19th centuries beekeeping became an important activity in England. Bees are kept for honey or wax, different types of bee being used for each. Photographed by Sydney Walter Alfred Newton in 1908
