Construction of the new cathedral took place between the mid-1950s and 1962 with the foundation laying ceremony being carried out by Queen Elizabeth II on 23 March 1956. This photograph was taken to show the progress of the construction.
It was catalogued as part of the Breaking New Ground Project in partnership with the John Laing Charitable Trust in 2019-20
