Topping out ceremony JLP01_11_51774_05
CHELSEA AND WESTMINSTER HOSPITAL, FULHAM ROAD, KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA, GREATER LONDON. Pam Castro smoothing the last batch of concrete during the topping out of the staff accommodation at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Pam Castro was Director of Estates for North West Thames Regional Health Authority. Standing behind her on the left is Brian Zelly, Joint Managing Director of Laing Management. On the right is Bill Anstead; Managing Director at Christiani & Nielsen.
Laing Management Contracting worked on the construction of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital on behalf of the North West Thames Regional Health Authority between 1989 and 1993. The new teaching hospital was built on the site of the old St Stephen's Hospital, which was demolished in the early months of 1989. The use of fast track construction techniques enabled the entire project to be completed in less than 5 years. The hospital was officially opened by the Queen on 13 May 1993
