CIS BUILDING, COOPERATIVE INSURANCE SOCIETY TOWER, MILLER STREET, MANCHESTER. Looking north-east over the Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS) Building during construction, showing the ground floor slab over the deep basement section.
The caption beneath the corresponding print of this image reads: "Foreground columns ready to receive floor slab were built off an existing air raid shelter roof. Weitz G60 and Buildmaster Tower Cranes are in use over the deep basement and shelter roof sections respectively. Concrete mixing plant can be seen in the right of the photograph."
