GREAT HALL, Hampton Court Palace, Richmond-upon-Thames, London. The Great Hall at Hampton Court Palace was built for Henry VIII in 1523-4 to replace Cardinal Wolseys hall. The painted hammerbeam roof has ornately carved pendants. The tapestries date from a similar period. Photographed by Bedford Lemere in 1890
