Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bridge Road, Long Ashton, Leigh Woods, North Somerset. Photograph taken from Clifton Down in the north between 1864 and 1920.
Clifton Suspension Bridge crosses the Avon Gorge. It was designed in 1829-31 by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Construction began in 1831 but work was abandoned in 1853. Brunel died in 1859 and as a memorial, a company was formed to complete the bridge. It finally opened on 8 December 1864
