A group portrait of Queen Victoria with Edward, Prince of Wales behind her, the royal family and other dignitaries outside the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) exhibit. The Royal Naval Exhibition took place between 2nd May to 24th October 1891 in the grounds of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea. Photographed by Bedford Lemere and Co in June 1891

Swordfish over Blackpool EAW212942

A Fairey Swordfish Mk.II flying over Blackpool in 1971. This type of torpedo bomber was used by the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy during World War 2. It was used successfully at the Battle of Taranto in 1940 and in attacks that crippled the German battleship Bismarck in 1941, as well as during anti-submarine operations throughout the war. This example is still in flying condition as part of the Royal Navy Historic Flight. Aerofilms Collection (see Links)

Reedham ferry, Reedham, Norfolk. This small chain ferry is still the only vehicle crossing on the River Yare between Great Yarmouth and Norwich. Much of East Anglia is watery, and many rivers could only be crossed by ferry before road bridges were built in the later 20th century. Photographed by Hallam Ashley in September 1954
