Staff lifting mobile radiography and X-ray apparatus from a van. Mobile X-ray units, designed by Marie Curie, were used during WWI. By 1939 reliable and shockproof portable radiography apparatus was available; the British Army was supplied with a robust model that could be transported in a crate.
