BOURNEMOUTH CENTRAL STATION, BOURNEMOUTH, DORSET. A family walking beside a train at Platform 3 of Bournemouth Central Station, either arriving or departing for a day trip to Bournemouth for Laing staff and families.
In 1947, after a seven year break, Laing had resurrected their Area Outings for staff and their families, with trips taking place in May and June. In contrast to earlier years, in 1956 there were more outings, each with smaller group sizes "in a bid to recapture the intimate atmosphere" of earlier day trips. Twelve outings were arranged to take place in the early summer of 1956, with 2,000 people attending four outings travelling from London. This outing was for London employees and their families from the Administration and Secretarial Divisions, and from Coryton, Dagenham, Shell Haven, and Thames Haven. John Laing, chairman of John Laing and Son Ltd, and his wife also attended this outing
