The Mansion House, High Street, Doncaster. An interior view of the entrance hall in Mansion House, looking up the staircase. The mayoral residence was built for the Doncaster Corporation between 1746 and 1748 by James Paine, with additions made between 1801 and 1805 by William Lindley. The entrance hall has a large Imperial staircase, or a double staircase, with plain and scrolled iron balusters. Over the first landing is a Venetian opening with four pairs of Corinthian columns supporting the cornices. The upper hall behind has panelling on the walls and a curved ceiling with moulded cornices
