RMS AQUITANIA. Interior view towards the fireplace in the Palladium Lounge. The Aquitania was launched in 1913 as the third of the Cunard Line express ocean liners (after the Mauretania and Lusitania), and the last four-stack liner to be built. She could carry over 2000 passengers on Cunard's weekly transatlantic service. Photographed here by Bedford Lemere, in August 1923 probably during a stop-over and refit in Southampton

HMS Wishart AA002466
HMS WISHART, Hays Wharf, Bermondsey, London. A Thorneycroft modifed W class destroyer launched in 1919, here bedecked in celebratory bunting. During the Second World War she served in the Mediterranean fleet, including acting as escort to the Malta convoys. She was decommissioned and broken up in 1945. Photographed here by S W Rawlings in April 1937 - On 27th April she was Guardship at Greenwich for the opening of the National Maritime Museum by King George VI

KING GEORGE V DOCK, Canning Town, London. A view looking towards the bow of the Persic as she is assisted into the dock by tugs. She was built in 1949 for the Shaw, Savill and Albion Line before she was transferred to the Royal Mail Line in 1969 and renamed the Derwent'. Photographed by S. W. Rawlings. Date range: 1949 - 1965
