HARRODS, Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, London. Baroque luxury of the ladies shoe department in Harrods. The ornate plaster ceiling and the lavish use of space emphasise the exclusive nature of the store. It was rebuilt following a fire in 1884 and was given a major extension in 1901-5. Fortnum And Mason, 181 Piccadilly, Greater London. The entrance at the corner of Jermyn Street and Duke Street, with scaffolding visible during rebuilding of the Piccadilly frontage of the department store. 103 Westgate Street, Gloucester, Gloucestershire. A view from the north east of the main elevation of No. 103 Westgate Street, early 1930s. This building is a town house dating from c.1645, and for many years part of the Gloucester Folk Museum, it is shown here at about the time it was acquired by the City Council for this purpose but before alterations had been made to its street frontage.
