Charles Latham (1857-'1933) photolithograph. One of the most complete Elizabethan houses in England, Franks Hall had fallen into disrepair in the 19th century. Robert Bradford purchased the estate in 1860, restored the house and gardens, and added a suite of Moorish-style rooms. The Bathurst family had formerly owned Franks Hall, and Earl Bathurst bought it back in 1911. Two years later an article in Country Life (26 July) celebrated his efforts in obliterating the worst alterations of the nineteenth century including a Moorish bathroom
