Tees Transporter Bridge AA55_04344
TRANSPORTER BRIDGE, Middlesbrough, Cleveland. This transporter bridge is one of only four in Britain. Built in 1911, a moveable platform was slung by cables from a steel frame and carried passengers and vehicles across the River Tees. This design was chosen to minimise disruption to shipping. Photographed by Eric de Mare in 1955

Mary Ardens House AA98_05228
MARY ARDEN'S HOUSE / PALMER'S FARM, Station Road, Wilmcote, Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire. This house was first referred to as Mary Arden's House in 1798. Mary Arden was Shakespeare's mother and the house dates from the early 16th century. However, it is now known that this is in fact Palmer's Farm, and the red-brick cottage to the south-west is where Mary Arden lived. Both properties are under the care of The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. Photographed by Eric de Mare between 1945 and 1980
