APSLEY HOUSE, Hyde Park Corner, London. Item from the Wellington Museum depicting the lines of Torres Vedras, Portugal. This series of forts was built in secret in 1809-10 to defend Lisbon. Part of a dinner service which was given as a gift from the King of Prussia to the Duke of Wellington in 1819. Dessert Plates of the Prussian Service show scenes of events in Wellingtons life, in this case the Peninsular War. WM 1031-1948
