TYNE BRIDGE, Newcastle. Site of the new Tyne Bridge, photographed here in October 1927, a year before official opening of the bridge - the approaches are well underway. Also shown are Robert Stephensons innovative High Level Bridge (1849), and the Swing Bridge (1876) funded by Armstrong to replace a stone bridge that obstructed river traffic.
