Mark Hole Cottage MCF01_02_1305
MARK HOLE COTTAGE, THE CLIFFS, CHEDDAR, SEDGEMOOR, SOMERSET. Looking across the mill pond near Cox's Mill towards Mark Hole Cottage and Lion Rock on the hillside above.
The photograph also shows that at the time it was taken the land on the hillside was under cultivation, probably for strawberry growing. Strawberries are still grown on the slopes of Cheddar today and this south facing hillside would have been ideal for growing the soft fruit. The cottages at the bottom of the hill are marked on maps as Mark Hole Cottage but in 1985 were first designated as a listed building known as Cheddar Pottery
