ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, CHURCH LANE, BURFORD, WEST OXFORDSHIRE. Exterior view of the south porch of St John the Baptists Church.
View of the south porch with a tracery-panneled facade and three statuettes in niches at the lower left and right corners, and in a central position at the top of the facade. Above the facade are three crenellated pinnacles, and at the base is a pointed arch as an entrance. To the right of the porch is a window in a gable, with a trefoil niche above it. Behind the window is the central tower, with the clock face and the window above it visible. The spire, however, it cropped out. In the foreground are a few headstones. The church dates back to the 12th century, but it is possible that it has earlier origins. The church was restored in the 1870s by Street, which prompted William Morris to found the SPAB (Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings)
