CRYSTAL PALACE, Sydenham, London. A circa 1859 view of the giant figures which dominated the tropical transept at the north end of the Crystal Palace. The two figures depict the Egyptian pharaoh Rameses II and were copied from those carved in the rock at the entrance to the temple at Abu Simbel. Philip Henry Delamotte
