Boat House, Birkenhead Park DP175237
Birkenhead Park, Park Drive, Birkenhead, Wirral, Merseyside. Designed by Joseph Paxton, Edward Kemp and architects Lewis Hornblower and John Robertson, opened 5th April 1847, responding to declining health conditions during the Industrial Revolution in the C19. Unique as it was the first park to be created through an act of Parliament and using public funds. It was the inspiration for New York's Central Park. Roman Boat House, view from south east

Adelphi Terrace Vaults, London. Light flooding through apertures. The Adelphi Vaults were built in the 1770s by the Adam brothers. The vaults formed riverside warehousing, with a terrace of quality housing including the Royal Terrace (later the Adelphi Terrace) above. The construction of the Victorian Embankment removed its Thames frontage. Photographed by William A Clark in 1936
